  1. can't know which path is suitable.

    Very correct and well said.
  2. Who Owns the Future?

All I am saying is that we could easily end up offending people who belong to a certain race (say for example, African Americans). This is called non-inclusiveness. Imagine that in a group discussion if you are talking bad about someone's country, could not that offend and exclude someone?
  3. Who Owns the Future?

I don't have a problem with labeling communities positively (e.g. calling Chinese smarter, etc.), but one should judge the ramifications of assigning negative labels like calling an entire community less intelligent. This kind of racially biased thinking is a problem in the society, and I...
  4. Who Owns the Future?

Disagree. We need to be more sensitized. This is a Quant forum, imagine how some aspiring quant from the communities being discussed would feel seeing these foolish comments. Many big names have lost their fame trying to propose such arguments. I am talking about some top of the top names...
  5. Who Owns the Future?

Bringing genetics into the discussion is a bad idea that lacks merit. Even many famous people who tried to propose such arguments have been time and again rejected by the society. People without legs have climbed mountains. It is foolish to blame a community being behind because of lacking...
  6. Who Owns the Future?

Being a foreign person (India) in the US, I think the US system still produces one of the best well rounded graduates. I personally think the main reason for communities like African Americans to be not doing so well is linked to racism that is still highly prevalent in the society. Small...
  7. can't know which path is suitable.

I would not recommend getting a PhD. Worshiping a Professor for 6 years will not necessarily give an advantage in the industry.
  8. can't know which path is suitable.

No need to get a PhD for working in the industry unless you love sitting in school.
  9. can't know which path is suitable.

You can try #4: No PhD. Acquire relevant work experience in Korea. Then apply to MFEs.
  10. Cass FinMath

anyone? I meant Cass Business School, which is part of city university london.
  11. Who Owns the Future?

I think the American system still produces certain percentage of exceptional students. And in terms of overall skills, I would rank US grads much higher than any international grads.
  12. Financial engineering vs. financial mathematics

Thanks Andy for taking the time to answer. This explanation makes the picture much clearer.
  13. Cass FinMath

How is the reputation of Cass financial math program in uk?
  14. visa problem

I think the hard part is to get the job in the US as a foreigner. Visa difficulty is secondary. Big companies generally have no problems in OPT->H1B changes for their foreign employees. So if you get your phd, and obtain a job on opt, then should not be an issue to convert the status to h1b.
  15. Leeds, Warwick, York, etc.

thanks bbw. That is good to know that Warwick could be placed that high.
