  1. UCB MFE GMAT vs GRE for UCB MFE (or others)

Regarding the difficulty of the UCB admission rate, even though its one of the top schools for MFE, their acceptance rate is higher than schools on the East Coast, namely NYU, Baruch, Princeton, Columbia and Tepper. I guess its because of the job market, so if you were planning to apply to top...
  2. What are some good ways to prepare for the GRE?

    Thanks for the help everyone.
  3. What are some good ways to prepare for the GRE?

How is the classroom course by Princeton review? Is it a waste of money or not? What are some good study guides? Barron's or Princeton review or others? Also, I'm getting the idea that the verbal section is much harder than the quantitative section, and being that I'm terrible with vocabulary...
  4. "MFE program profile evaluation" master thread

Are you sure you can take Calc II and EDE at the same time? At my school EDE is Calc IV so Calc III is a prereq.
  5. How would being an under grad for 7 years affect me when applying to MFE programs?

Good for you, but there's a difference between bluntness and being an arrogant prick. This shouldn't matter here, but its usually people like you and cw202 who won't be too 'blunt' in people's faces (I promise people like you won't get too far acting like cw202 in my face). You told me I was...
  6. "MFE program profile evaluation" master thread

I don't know how someone who drifted so aimlessly in undergrad was able to complete such a difficult course of study let alone getting into such a competitive program. But you still have much trouble ahead, as the headhunters you meet will question your lack of focus and may lead you to a job...
  7. "MFE program profile evaluation" master thread

I'm sorry my friend. If you only have taken just Calc I by now, you are screwed. This is straight from the mouth of a genius (and also the smartest person on this board). If you had the intellect and fortitude to become a Quant, you would have already taken every single Math course your school...
  8. How would being an under grad for 7 years affect me when applying to MFE programs?

I just read your interview on the home page of this site. I have to say, I'm jealous. Because, well it seems like you've figured out the whole world already. So is cw202 your other account?
  9. How would being an under grad for 7 years affect me when applying to MFE programs?

I apologize for the language that I used that may have offended some people. I'm not trying to say this as an excuse but cw202's post seemed more like a attack than a critique hence my tone and language.
  10. math courses to take around the nyc area

How is the admission to Baruch undergrad? Is it a rolling admission or competitive?
  11. How would being an under grad for 7 years affect me when applying to MFE programs?

So your saying that every single geek that has lived to this day that chooses to prioritize academics over say something like athletics is soley based on their above avg (or maybe genius in your case) IQ and not because they don't have any other talents such as physical abilities, charm, or some...
  12. Any quant career opportunities in Cali?

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by your group? Is it a team in a company? What do you guys do? Do you know if any hedge funds are out there?
  13. Any quant career opportunities in Cali?

I now most of the top jobs are in NYC or Chicago for the US, but what are the job prospects for a quant out in Cali? Are there many hedge funds out there? If not the traditional quant role, what would/can someone with a MFE degree do out there?
  14. How difficult is a Ph.D in Math or Fin Math?

Then do you know what it takes to obtain a job like a Goldman Sachs partner? Isn't the avg pay for a partner like 40-50 million? Do quants have any chance of getting those jobs?
  15. Where would you rank Baruch MFE with top programs ?

No kidding, when I first went to Baruch's website and started to browse I began to think it's not too bad. Then I saw the admissions stats which discouraged me, then I saw the student profiles of admits and my heart dropped.
