    quant-heavy areas of finance

Risk - you manipulate data with SQL.... Most quant jobs I can think of require at least 80% of data manipulation, there's no way around that.

    About FRM?

There definitely IS math in the FRM curriculum. Of course it is not fancy stochastic processes and PDEs, but it gives you a good overview of mathematical subjects & tools that are used in practice. Statistical knowlegde (Hypothesis testing, var. distributions), pricing models (e.g. B.S.), and...

    Career shift

Age is no issue! And also I don't think that you need any further education. Just have a go at it and apply for some positions you find interesting. In this way you will quickly see what your market value is.

    Career shift

Is your goal to land a quant job in Switzerland? If you have / manage to obtain some programming skills (SQL, VBA, OO Language) then you should be fine. There are many jobs in Risk Management where you could highly leverage your knowledge in the Basel II area. I always ask this but are you...

Is an PhD in engineering physics too "applied" for a quant job?

Physics PhDs do modeling of all kinds of stuff, ergo they are needed in quant finance (doesn't matter too much which branch of physics you're coming from).

What about trying to land a job at a bank where you are close to the quants? From there, you could do a transition into a pure quant role. On one hand I've seen an astonishing amount of non-Quant people doing a quant's job, on the other hand, this breed is surely dying out as there are education...

    Screwed up my life

And most of all, relax! If you really as good as you claim, you shouldn't worry a bit. Just graduating from a top-tier uni doesn't do the job. You always get hired by the way you perform in the interviews!

    Quantitative Finance (MSc)?

If you want to land a job in Europe, then ETH QF program will be just fine. They have some good, albeit sometimes very theoretical lectures. I enjoyed a couple of these lectures as an application of pure math. If you're determined to go into finance then you could even consider an internship at...

    Need advice from the veterans

Yeah, it's true. A big plus if you re an able programmer. There's no such thing as a quant who doesn't program. Good luck!

I wouldn't dramatize the impact of one bed grade... you did well otherwise.
