just in general, uchicago had a 90% placement before graduates had finished last year (2007) and within 3 months (before 2008 class started) all had been placed.

That wouldn't make much sense at all. Assuming your grades are distributed like they would be in a 4 point scale. ie 0 F 2.25 D 4.5 C 6.75 B 9 A. Then
6.84/9.0=x/4 => x=3.04.
A 3.8 Is an A/A- Average.
