  1. Hedge Fund Data

    Bloomberg will probably have it.
  2. Market Risk vs. Trading

"Normal" path would be start at a good school, get 3.2GPA+, get internship at big-4 accounting or top name I-Bank for Jr. & Sr. year of college, get job at top I-Bank out of college, work 2yrs and transition up the ladder to an internal fund/analyst/risk.
  3. Market Risk vs. Trading

Trading is a very broad/general term. Do you mean Portfolio Manager? Prop Trader? Trader I, II or III (execution monkey)? Risk Management is also a general term - do you mean RM for a firm? Portfolio? Fund?
  4. R using quant firms

Where are you located and where are you applying? Are you Israeli? Send me a PM if you don't want to post publicly.
  5. C++ or C#, RTD or DDE, Xll or Dll?

Old thread. Hopefully I can add some value. Excel 2003 has a max of 1GB RAM it can draw from while Excel 2007 has the ability to take essentially everything not being used by other system processes. When using DDE/RDP links (like Bloomberg plug-in) with Excel, v.2007 is far superior to 2003...
  6. What If Women Ran Wall Street?

No comment. This thread is just bait for someone to be taken down by a post later in life.
  7. Who are you guys/gals???

Interesting. Thanks. I'm also in NYC and looking to start up a few projects this year. Also, my fiancee works at Columbia so as of June 5th (wedding) I'll be taking advantage of some free math & programming classes. I'm trying to network and hopefully get a few incubator projects underway this...
  8. Who are you guys/gals???

I didn't come here to talk to you :D
  9. Who are you guys/gals???

This is Off Topic so anything goes right? I'm wondering who you guys are - college, high school, grad/post grad? Anyone working? If so do you work in the fields you want to be in or are you trying to get into the quant field? Are you guys/girls mostly trying to work at big I-banks as quants...
  10. Day traders versus algo traders

HFT is such a broad term that it is very hard to outlay even the basics but it is true that it takes up that much of the volume. On a manual scale a trader may be able to develop a strategy that works but he/she can only monitor a small number of stocks. On an automated scale the algo will be...
  11. Day traders versus algo traders

I know some pretty good "gut" traders that do OK. That said, Algo trading will easily earn more returns simply because a "gut" trader can't watch as many stocks. Totally different trading style though.
  12. Algorithmic Trading at home - how should I get started?

It is VERY hard to start an ATS on your own. I'd be happy to answer any questions I can. The hardest part (IMO) is a position management engine. I just started recording London data so its pretty new to me but my clearing/execution is through ML. Without going to a major I-Bank you could try...
  13. iPad, do you iWant?

I have a feeling this will be similar to the 8GB iPhone FAIL that first came out. Waiting on a 2nd generation iPad before considering.
  14. NYU MSMF N.Y.U. Plans to Expand Campuses by 40 Percent

Its kinda nice in the summer when they are all gone... then again its also kinda nice when the girls are back in the fall
  15. Close alternatives to purely Quant positions for aspiring quants?

LOL I knew that "talk to girls" thing would come out the wrong way. I didn't mean if you can't go to a bar and pick up hot girls you'll be written off - but, sadly some of the smartest people I know (quants) are too scared to take risks and lack self confidence even though most look up to them...
