Understanding the industry and it's many moving parts.

There are plenty of A Day in the Life of ... threads here from years past. There are plenty of Youtubers, influencers, podcasters who pump out repetitive contents to try to gain views and make a buck. Most of their contents are very shallow.

How significant is mathematical knowledge for trading?

The value of many MFE programs is to put you in front of the employers. How well you perform to get an offer is up to you. Nobody can help you at that time. Without this pipeline, it's very hard to break in unless you are one in a million talent. You are underestimating how many young, hungry...

What is the future of Quant Trading / Finance?

The future of quant trading looks very bright, with advancements in technology, increased demand, competition, and expansion of data sources driving the growth of this field. In short, you better have really good C++/Python skills and some training of data science, big data to be able to compete...

2018 QuantNet Rankings of Financial Engineering (MFE) Programs

I'm really surprised at the lack of controversy at each ranking that QuantNet released. Where have they gone? I just searched and the 2012 ranking got over 300 comments, then the 2016 ranking got 125 comments and 2017 ranking got only over 110 comments. I wonder if it's a sign of how much...

2011-2012 Quantnet Ranking of Financial Engineering (MFE) Programs

2011-2012 Quantnet Ranking of Financial Engineering (MFE) Programs

Some people may have confused this ranking with a ranking of who are the most prestigious/well-known universities. If that is the case, the list will look totally different and Baruch is nowhere to be found there. Ranking is fun. Some will always hate it but most will take it for what it is...

Downward Dog Position Is Key To Getting Ahead On Wall Street, Says Private Equity Guy

When Jay Solomon was applying for jobs in finance last year, there was one thing on his resume that set him apart from the competition. It wasn’t his prior experience, or education or Excel skills. It wasn’t even his formatting and it definitely wasn’t his scented paper, which everyone uses...

Something I was thinking in terms of rating quality of MFE programs...

Directors have a minimal teaching load, 1-2 per year if they teach at all. How would that affect the quality of a program? A famous person is hired to attract students, raise profile of the program, marketing, etc.

what classes to take if seeking a potential risk management career

In risk management, you need to understand the products well. You need to learn Var, greeks, exposure to various scenarios, etc You also need to have a mind of a trader and be aware of how these traders "game" the system. It's no surprise that people with front office experience would be...

And while we have SS and Medicare in the title of this thread, let's not forget about the health care bill being discussed by the administration. One on hand, we have a broken system.
