Must Take Undergraduate Math Courses ?

Hello, I noticed that to begin an MFE program only those basic math courses are needed. But then I came across the “Reading List Before You Start an MFE Program” on this site and became a little overwhelmed. I am thinking about taking Stochastic Calculus next semester. I am not sure if I should...

Which carreer is better ? actuary or FE ?

I'm not - just wondered if would keep me productive for a year and serve as a review before I enter an MFE program Spring 010.

Which carreer is better ? actuary or FE ?

I read on this forum actuaries get paid better long term. Regardless it's not about that. My goal / target is the MFE but standing at a point with lack of direct work experience I figured I would do something in the mean time to keep my fresh. How much of the MFE material over laps with the...

Which carreer is better ? actuary or FE ?

That is what I was thinking. I have had a very tough time finding direct related work experience in Miami. So I figured while I am stuck here I might as well refresh my financial background and improve on math and probability. Plus the 3rd exam (MFE) is related to derivatives and the math behind...

Which carreer is better ? actuary or FE ?

Yes - anywhere from 4-6 yrs, mainly because of the study time and on avg 2 exams a yr if you don't fail any and things go smoothly - 8 total exams for CAS Fellowship.

Which carreer is better ? actuary or FE ?

Hello, I have been considering taking the actuary exams while I obtain work experience and then move off into the MFE program. I am not sure if this is a good idea. Also if I go down this path I am not sure if I should pursue FCAS (property and casualty) or FSA (life and health) - both model...

    Strong Math & Programming background

Imak, it's still possible to take courses. You can walk and still finish off some classes or even take courses at another university as a "non-seeking degree student". I think you could have these transferred to your university and/or get the additional transcript in. My personal situation - I...

    Good undergrad for financial eng?

I might be able to work for a year and take those courses at night. I think that applying to start this fall would be too rushed, especially since some programs offer summer refresher courses. And I also need C++. It's too bad my school did not offer better advising earlier on. Through...

    Good undergrad for financial eng?

I guess I could jump in on this boat - I am wondering exactly what math courses are needed? Every program is different; some require differential equation and others just 2 yrs of calculus. But is stochastic calculus necessary? What about partial differential equations? I saw the post for a book...

No experience here - but lots of observation. I agree. But there are so many other opportunities with an MFE degree. I think coming in to the program and looking to work hard :smt024 will get very far.

    Admission 2008

Yea that is true - but every little helps. Fees start to add up especially if you apply to a few schools, have transferred (double transcript fees), and the GRE. It's minor in the scheme of things, but it helps.

    Admission 2008

I am confused - you have to take the GRE as whole right? You cannot elect to skip a section? And in the application process section on the Baruch website states that test scores are required.

Andy, I believe the CFA can substitute for the Series 7 and 63 but I think it's more expensive. Not sure what the series cost.
