I guess your boss will reply: the expectation of a martingale is its present value.
  2. Stochastic Calculus

Why Shreve's is such a good book is because it has an excellent balance between theory and examples (and very gentle explanation). If anyone has any experience in trying to read those treatises in the most abstract branch in mathematics, with utter abstractness and conciseness, you will love the...

  6. Rumor: Windows 8 Set for September Reveal

I used Mac for several years and turned to Windows 7 (dual boot) few months ago, so far I am satisfied with my windows experience... the main problem I had with Mac was the lack/compatibility of softwares which are popular in the PC world, I still remember several frustrating moments which I...

  8. Lenovo T420

I am still having hard time using the trackpoint...isnt it hard to adjust or am I not yet getting the "feel" for it? Apple's trackpad is simply the best. I can used my MB smoothly just using the trackpad alone without a mouse, but I can't speak the same for other laptops. I'm still stunned by...
  9. Lenovo T420

another point: the machine is surprisingly cool even running some heavy applications for long time. I don't know why it is not taken as selling point (only discover it after few days of usage) as I have some bad experience with other laptops that can really be used to cook.

  11. Lenovo T420

MBP was one of my considerations but have ruled it out because of its price (for the same configuration with T series). Also I have a MB (quite old model) and my desktop is an iMac, so I don't really need another apple product line... so far very happy with my new toy and is playing around...
  12. Lenovo T420

That's great choice, Andy. However I am outside US so there aren't many options.. it took me quite some efforts to search around for bargains already and the machine is priced very competitively in US compared with other countries
  13. Lenovo T420

I got the one with i5, 8G RAM, 320G7200, but feel a bit pity that the screen is not 1600x900, it's configured so can't be changed...But overall I am very happy with it, actually feel quite surprise for the quality. I haven't seen the real T420s but from what I know T420s is slimmer and lighter...

  23. Investments 7th VS 8th

Let's take Hull's as an example (I choose this just because it is so widely used. I like the book myself and nothing against the author). Assume each class can sell 10 of them and it is used not just in US, but around the world, so I think it wouldn't be too exaggerate to assume there are 1000...
  24. Investments 7th VS 8th

However I am sure there are many talented people out there, some of them lucky, some of them not that lucky, and these above average people are waiting or already actively pursuing opportunities outside their radius. 28. For those who Planning to work at Asia

May be the quote I used was misleading. I didn't mean to specifically addressing Tao when I wrote that. What I meant to express is that there is higher potential for talented people to standout if there is right environment for them. BTW Tao obtained his PhD in Princeton and showed great talent...
  29. Is this a QD position?

I think what others have been saying is that if you didn't receive very positive reply from other interviews or even has difficulty in getting an interview, then you better accept the offer. It is better to get in the door at least. However if you feel OK in other interviews and interviews seem...

  33. For those who Planning to work at Asia

I have few friends who work in Japanese banks. These banks are not that generous in terms of compensation. Also they tend to put some constraints on you which may seem a bit inflexible. However Japan itself has a lot of interesting culture/traditions and people are very civilized.

  37. For those who Planning to work at Asia

It may happen. In the very long run, it's possible that it may not even be useful in knowing Mandarin because Chinese people by that time will mainly speak in English and I'm afraid if you speak "too good" Mandarin you'll be looked down by those people.
