How to get around the city

Hi guys!

I take the 10:00 train at night by Penn Station. Baruch is a 25 minute walk from there. Given that classes end at 9:30 I was cutting it close. I tried a couple of ideas and I am still not sure what to settle on:

1) Walk. Too close for comfort and I don't enjoy wasting an hour of each day.

2) Electric Scooter. I had one and was about to purchase a faster one when I stumbled on the governor's website stating that it is illegal to operate electronic scooters under 30mph in the city. Anything over required a special license.

3) Push Scooter. I currently have this: http://www.goped.com/products/knowped/default.asp

As far as push scooter's go it is pretty awesome. I have been having some issues though:

a) I have bad ankles and this is making it increasingly worse
b) I sweat twice a day - and two showers a day is not happening
c) Its exhausting
d) Not much faster than walking

...so I might switch again.

4) I've been thinking about foldable bikes. A full size is not practical because I cannot take it into college and leaving it outside even with an armed guard in NY is like posting a "FOR FREE" sign. However, most of them get awful reviews.

Recently I stumbled on this: http://www.strida.us/model-sd.asp

The reviews are pretty fantastic, but dropping $600 on a bike that rides sub-par makes me a bit uneasy.

So guys, any other ideas?

Thanks!

i also take the train from Penn. the quickest way is really by subway; take the N/R two stops.

The bike looks cool, it looks fine for easy riding. But the weight distribution must be skewed to the back.

Walking from Penn to Baruch will take you around 20 mins. It's not that bad. If you go really fast and the lights cooperate, you can make it in around 13-15 mins.

I looked at "foldable" bikes. Actually my sister in law and her husband did extensive research and this is what they bought:

They are not cheap (twice as much as the one you posted) but they are extremely light and fold into nothing.

You can ask Dan to move the class to McDonalds near Penn.

Yes Alain, Brompton is king. Only, I don't have $1500 to drop...

Guys, a primary factor is that I had major injuries to both ankles a few years back and they are not recovering well. The walk destroys my ankles...

The subway appears to be the best option, but it does add $5 a day to my already expensive transportation bill, plus the trains are not consistent and take at least 20 minutes as well.
