How to transition into quantitative finance from Software Development Engineering?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently a final-year CSE undergraduate at IIT Kanpur with a CGPA of 8.0/10. I completed a 2-month internship at Adobe and received a pre-placement offer for an SDE role, but I’m looking to transition into quantitative finance.

I genuinely enjoy mathematics and have always been comfortable with it. Alongside my major, I completed a minor in Management Sciences, where I took courses such as Finance & Accounting, Game Theory, and Advanced Corporate Finance. I’m also preparing for the CFA Level I exam, which I plan to take next year in August. On the technical side, I’ve taken several machine learning courses—including reinforcement learning—and have a strong CS background, although pure software development isn’t something I particularly enjoy.

My question is: Would these qualifications be sufficient to be considered for quant roles (especially IB quant positions) if I apply next year? Will my profile be competitive in the current market?

If not, what further education would be most helpful? Should I consider a Master’s in Data Science or a Master’s in Mathematical Finance/Financial Engineering? Given my strengths in mathematics and my coding background—but lower interest in software engineering—I’m unsure which route would align best with my goals.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
