Does anyone know if the admissions committee would prefer an essay that is to the point and answers the three questions OR should the essay be closer to a personal statement and just make sure to answer the questions within it?

Often there will be length guidelines (e.g. no more than 500 words, 2 page, etc).

Ideally, frame the responses within the context of a narrative arc - like a hero in a comic book story. Demonstrate the qualities which indicate likely success in the programs.

If you're in doubt, maybe ask admissions?
