Self employment on resume

I work at a firm full time doing finance stuff but I also have my own trading company which I identify myself with. (there is no conflict of interest here, just different kind of finance)

Now I am looking for other non-finance projects and people ask me for my resume. I don't want to identify myself with my job but instead through my own company.

Is it okay to omit my employment at another firm and just use my own trading company for my resume ? Is there any rule of thumb regarding this ?

My rule of thumb is that you have to be ready to answer any questions raised by a seeming inconsistency or conflict of interest. If you aren't then avoid it.
