Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and looking for a little advice if anyone can help?

I did my first undergrad degree in Software Engineering and I am currently doing a second undergrad in Banking and Finance (and a top up year after in Math). I've also got 8 years experience as a Software Developer under my belt.

Once I finish up the Banking and Finance course I'm wondering if from a career perspective taking a MS/MFE is a wise next step, or whether looking for a job in southern CT/NYC would be a better bet.

I'm looking to do something with programing related to Finance but unsure what the entry barriers are like with regards to needing a Masters? From reading through the information on this site, Quant work sounds very interesting but it seems that an MFE or similar is a base requirement?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

search the site. This type of question has been asked multiple times before.

Similar questions have been answered before so for more detail please refer to those, but I will make a few short points here.

With your work experience you may try your luck at applying for some positions and see what you get.

That being said a masters degree is a common "requirement". If you are looking for more developer/programming quant role you should also consider a masters in computer science or something like CMU's masters in computational finance. There are more and more people running around with MFEs so being able to differentiate yourself is important.

alain, connor - Thanks for the responses, I'll certainly have a dig around in the forum for more information on the educational front.

As for the MS in Computer Science. This is certainly something I have considered in the past so I'll have a look at some of the programs out there which look relevant to Finance.
