I recently accepted a new grad Quant Trader offer (one of Jane Street/Optiver/Cit Sec/SIG) and I was wondering what are good ways to prepare in advance given that I have absolutely zero prior trading experience. I think I have a fairly decent understanding of quantitative concepts taught in school but I'm not too sure how applicable this is to real world trading. Is there anything I can do to get a head start or is this just something you learn on the job (I asked around for preparation tips but the advice I got was to chill until work started).

Congratulations, @MMFInfoAcct, on your QT offer. That's no small feat.

I agree with the recommendation given to you by your network simply because every firm trades different financial instruments using different trading strategies. Learning on the job is your best bet in this case. However, if you are keen on preparing pending your resumption date, you can pick up Option Volatility & Pricing: Advanced Trading Strategies and Techniques by Sheldon Natenberg. It would make for a good read.

I wish you the very best.

Congrats on your offer. The books by Euan Sinclair and Colin Bennett are a good read if your future role is in options. Apart from that, get your hands dirty with Python as you’ll likely be using it for analysis of trades / strategies. And yes - chill and recharge - the first year will be intense.
