    Renaissance Technologies uses some kind of news aggregation/analysis (last I heard). Not sure of its cost benefit. Google is probably restricted from trading itself, but I am sure they could provide some kind of "news market data" if they wanted to. That would be pretty sweet... actually.

    The answer to this really depends on what you want to do. If your issue really is all about an iterative loop taking too long then C++ will do you just fine (and is the standard in finance for this sort of thing). I'd hazard a guess, however, and bet that your time issues are due to something...

    Andy, thanks for the great response (and quick too!). I am not worried about the tuition reimbursement (my company's policy falls in the more generous of the ranges described).
