Course material is very interesting especially toward the end. TA is very helpful and efficient.
I learned a lot from this course and I also found interest in programming for financial applications.
This course is great for someone who is learning programming for the first time and is considering a mathematical finance degree. The material focuses heavily on C++ programming concepts, provides best-practice recommendations, and gives many problems to work on. I found the problems to be my favorite part of the course because they gave me a motivating reason to be learning theory. In contrast with reading a book on programming, I was able to meet a community of individuals interested in quant finance. We learn from each others successes and failures, and can provide help if you ever feel completely stumped.

This course is difficult and will require a commitment from you. But if you decide to stick it out, you will learn a lot over your 16 weeks and become much more confident in programming by the end. I don't know everything about programming, but I now feel confident enough to explore on my own.
Excellent course. The contents were very well structured and the exercises are very helpful in terms of implementing what you have learned. My TA (Avi) was very responsive to my questions.
Great course designed for comprehensive knowledge of C++. Will also give you a peak at its application in financial instrument valuations. Course has a good deal of reading material as well as code samples. And if you are stuck at something just hope on to Quantnet forum. Avi and Dr.Duffy as well as your classmates are always there to help you out with any question.
Must for MFE/Quant aspirants!!
Cheers
This course served as an excellent method for me to review the basics of C++ that I had already learned as well as push forward into new subject matter. The couse is very comprehensive in its curriculum and provides students with insight into numerous valuable C++ libraries and an introduction into programming for financial applications. The support of the TA and other students was invaluable.
The quality of the course is excellent,it organically combine the c++ programming with the math methods of finance.TAs are conscientious and patient, and they will answer your questions in earnest.
It's a balance mixture of theoretical approach and practical implementation. The curriculum was designed with many hand-on exercise which will help students to familiarize themselves with the actual code in action. Also the coherency between chapters make the whole understanding process firmer. In short the course is established to prepare the students with a good understanding of C++ for an even greater challenge ahead.
Having not programmed in 5+ years I was basically like a newbie to programming. So for an almost newcomer this course was a very challenging course. But the structure of the course, the TAs and the forum made it very easy to steadily get back into the swing of programming. Definitely not for the faint of heart, because each homework starts out seeming very difficult, but like programming itself you have to keep hacking away until you get the right solution. Anyone who thinks they will knock out the homework in their first try will quickly learn that the homeworks are an iterative process. Safe to say that after this course I enjoy programming more than I ever did in high-school and college.

On a personal note, I would like to thank my TA (Avi) for all of his help. He really pushes you to think for yourself which is great.
Very enjoyable, the course teaches from the basic towards the specific goal in detail
Overall the quality of the course is great. TA was fast and effective in answering questions on the forum. The HW Feedback was detailed and well-explained. The forum was a great resource in itself to find help and expand knowledge on certain topics that were not fully understood during the course.
The TA's were very helpful. The course itself helped me refresh my memory of C++.
This course arms its students with the ability to both read and write serious C++ code.
The TA is very responsive on the forums, and the fellow students share their insight, and the entire learning process is made better because of it.
It was a great experience for me. Although I still wouldn't consider myself a pro, I learned a lot. I have no prior programming experience and my TA Avi Palley was very helpful and prompt with the responses.

The exercises were too good. They encroached upon almost all the concepts.

The forums are very helpful too. I not only found answers to my questions, I gained insight into the different ways of doing the same problem.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn C++.
The course material is comprehensive. TA is truly accessible. I finished my course within relatively short period of time, and when I got frustrated with programming and debugging, I often found TA supportive and conversations within class forum informative. I will highly recommend this course to my friends who are interested in computer science.
It has been a wonderful experience. The learning is no less rigorous than the classroom environment. Anyone who wishes to embark on a financial engineering career who has yet to learn the programming skill should definitely come check out this program.
This course is definitely very helpful to get you ready to have all the tools you need to explore the C++ world on a deeper level on your own. My TA is being greatly helpful! I would recommend to anyone who is seriously considering to apply for a MFE degree.
This is a great program and has been really helpful in sharping my C++ skills. Avi (my TA) was very helpful and quick on responding to my questions. I would highly recommend any student or professional who wants to learn or sharpen your C++ to take this course.
- The online C++ programming course was what I needed to sharpen my C++ programming skills and come one step closer to getting accepted into a top MFE program. What I liked best about my experience was the outstanding teaching videos and materials for every level. The TA's dedication to prompt and helpful responses was valuable to learn at my own pace.
C++ for Financial engineering is an awesome course offered by Baruch through Quantnet. This, in my opinion, is useful for both non-programmers trying to learn C++ and programmers trying to brush up their knowledge. Each segment has video lectures, sample code and class notes. Forum is very active. Dr. Duffy is great. TAs are always there to help and are very picky when it comes to reviewing homework / grading. Assignments and quizzes are quite challenging.
Caveat: Do not take this course lightly. Participate only if you are sufficiently motivated to learn and have time for that. Don't under estimate the final exam.
It's a great course, and the QuantNet community is just right for me to get questions answered and get homework done. I've had no formal programming experience before and this course sets me off the road and gets deeper throughout the levels. Great for beginners or programmers from other languages. My TA has been really helpful and helped me solved lots of questions.
