Maybe I could excuse myself from some courses / do extra work to save a year? I think Mike Giles is at Oxford but I just want to get some diversity on studying... which PhD programmes are best suited to becoming a quant in a top hedge fund?

Thanks - it's just I'm kind of set on spending some time in the US for studying. Also, here masters is compulsory for PhD or DPhil, but in the US I could save a year. I'm looking at the MFE programme at Berkeley, but I'd ideally like to go for a PhD Any ideas?
