Hello everyone,

I am currently studying for my masters degree in Financial Modelling and Optimization. I have just finished my exam period and I am going to enjoy my Christmas break. However, I want to take advantage of this break so as to improve my skills. Because of this, I have to say that I am facing a dilemma which is: "Revising the maths courses we were taught and study new things or spend more time on trying to apply the knowledge I have acquired to real world problems (if possible)?". I know that both choices will be beneficial but I want to listen to opinion from people more experienced than me. For the later, I know that it will be difficult to start from a specific point, so any advice is welcome.

Thank you in advance

If you have an internship, focus on that. If you don't, study interview problems. If you're in a masters program, your #1 priority should be getting a job.

Ask your professors for academic papers. I don't really know what you're into, or what field you want to get into.

My main interest is in financial engineering but I have to focus on other topics as I consider it very difficult to get an offer for this kind of job.
