I got both my degrese from a small state school (finishing the MA by Spring of this yer), but have done pretty well in both pure and applied courses (UG Math GPA, 3.95, GR Math GPA 3.85). Have a published paper in mathematical finance, though it's nothing crazy, and working on another in numerical analysis. I was going to cold call some hedge funds, but I'm not sure if I have the credentials on paper. I'm in the process of waiting to hear back from PhD programs, including getting an acceptance to Stony Brook's applied math program which has a quantitive finance track. However recently I'm thinking of focusing on just making money instead of pursuing higher education for the sake of it, but somehow utilizing my quantitive talents. All advice is appreciated, thanks. I live very close to NYC, if that helps at all.
