Hi All,
I'm interested in applying to Columbia's MSFE program. Bcoz I don't know anyone directly in that program, I have been consulting friends in other MFE programs about Columbia's MSFE. From talking to these people, I am getting the feeling that, at Columbia:-
1. Students in the MSFE, the MSOR and the MSIE programs all compete for the same positions. Since each of these programs is relatively big (i dont have exact numbers about the class size), there are a LARGE number of students competing for the same positions.
2. Since the firms like to maintain good relations with all top universities, they spread their hiring across these univs, resulting in a maximum limit that they can hire from any 1 given school.
As a combination of these 2 factors, Columbia's MSFE students are at a disadvantage compared to other MFE progams.
I am not sure how valid my analysis is, so any comments / suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks,
Shweta
