Columbia MFE Columbia MFE admissions results

  • Thread starter Thread starter Vixus
  • Start date Start date
Schools where seats are relatively high (like Columbia), do not generally send rejections upfront, unless they are certain that you are a mismatch. They will keep their options open for maintaining a wait list.

Schools with lower seats (Baruch, probably NYU) do send rejections.

Dear Columbia, if you are reading this, please end the suspense on results :)

I wanted to ask something, how do you guys plan to finance your studies? Do most people have that amount of savings or are rich OR plan to take loan?

How on earth do people believe they will send out responses today???!?!?!?!

They scheduled interviews for candidates as late as two days ago. Two days to review profile and make a decision?

On top of this, their F.A.Q. page specifically states that the decisions will be handed by Mid-March to late-April.

Admissions Questions | Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research

When will I know the decision?
PhD applicants will be notified of their admissions decision or contacted for more information late-February to early-March. The M.S. programs (Financial Engineering, Management Science & Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Operations Research) applicants for the Fall semester will be notified of their admissions decision or contacted for more information mid-March to late-April.

I am highly suspicious about the speculation that it would even be next Monday. Where do you guys get this information?

We get this information from what happened last year. Their website is not upto date with a lot of things. For eg, the submission deadline for MFE application is 5th Jan and 4th Jan at 2 different places, however, in reality there's no application deadline. I wouldn't rely much on the website information.

The interviews last year were over by about I think 16/18 Feb. This year it has been an extra week. Results were out starting 6th Mar last year (first round of results). First round this year could still be out next week.

So all in all we don't really know for sure. Best thing we can do is update the thread if we receive anything then we can have a better idea of when the rest of us should hear something.

Just reached this thread. My first interview was on 02/06, but suppositely in got broken. They sent me a link yesterday to take the interview again, did it today. Still waiting!

Good luck to everybody.

Does that mean that Columbia reached out to you that it's broken? In that case it would mean that they have reviewed/are reviewing the first set of invitations. If they reached out, when did they reach out?

Most likely. They reached out to me yesterday night (in Italy).

Anyone knows if we would be able to get an offer from Columbia MathFin if we applied to MFE only? Till last year, they used to make admission offers to MSOR and MS MathFin if you were not able to crack MFE.

Hi, Usually, those missed MFE would be redirected to MSOR. Do you mean that the students who were not able to be admitted to MFE could be redirect to MathFin as well?

MathFin is in another department and MFE only redirect you to the MSOR program which is in the same Dept (IEOR). You need to apply separately for MathFin .
