Hello i've been wondering which path one should take to break into quant finance.

I was wondering wether getting a bfe and then an mfe is a good option or if i should do something like applied math into an mfe.
Or maybe go a completely different route.

Any feedback is great.

Take this first,

to learn what the QA jobs really are.

Then any STEM + C++ will do, if you wish to become a pricing quant, and possibly Python instead of C++ if you want to be a buy side "strategy researcher", but not do pricing.

It is better to have Masters so as to go via Grad program route.

Any STEM grad will do plus C++.

Your job during the first years as a pricing quant will be to take ownership of millions of lines of production code, of the internal model docs, not written by academics, learn testing frameworks and trader tools.

You having done a STEM degree is supposed to be an indication that you will not fail in those tasks. Whether you have learned how to integrate, differentiate or solve combinatorial prob brain teasers is not that important by itself.

They key skill to develop is learning from materials not designed to be learned from and be creative in general problem solving.
