I'm about to complete my MS in mathematical finance at a state school and am planning on continuing here to the PhD. However, I've been considering just applying to the highly ranked schools for their MFE/whatever they offer since it seems like the jobs are so much more plentiful. I'd like some advice on if getting another masters in the exact same subject, but from a higher ranked school, is common at all? I have an internship secured for the summer so I wouldn't start until next spring at earliest, most likely. I'm just afraid that the schools I would apply to may think I'm doing it just to get their brand recognition, but it's also so that I can learn from the best in the field (although the former is my primary intent, I hope that doesn't sound too sinister).

I chose the school I'm at now because it offers more of the rigorous measure theory I thought would be beneficial but still a solid computational aspect, plus I'm a funded TA. But I've realized brand name seems to be so much more important for our field. What to do? Thanks!

I don't know much about mfe's but sounds like a bit of a waste of time unless you went to a school that is completely unknown
