Good morning,

I am Spanish and I hold a Engineer's degree in Computer Science (MEng equivalent) and a Master's degree in Finance and Control from a top tier French university. I have 2.5 yr experience as Software Developer, not in finance though.
Now I am applying for junior developer roles in financial institutions in UK as a first step to reach a position as front-office developer or quant dev in the future.

My first problem is the GPA stuff. I have a GPA 7.5 over 10 in Computer Science which is quite good for Engineering in Spain, and I finished my studies in 5.5 years while average is 6.7. So I reckon I am in the top 20% of my Engineering school, but I don't how to make recruiters understand that I was not a mediocre student having those marks.

Any advice on how to express this non-standard GPA to UK and/or US recruiters when I am enquired about it?

Thanks in advance

Transfer it to a 4.0 scale and if your school is in fact good in the field the recruiters will either know about it or find out. Keep in mind that a hypothetical 3.0 at MIT may be equivalent to a 3.9 at some other school.

At some point, people aren't concerned with GPA anymore. This is true for people with a few year of work experience. In fact, you don't even need to mention your GPA on your resume. If they ask, you tell them. Other than that, not a big deal.

Thank you for your replies, guys.

Eugene Krel, these low marks are general for all Engineering Schools in Spain. In fact I spent one year abroad in Germany and got GPA 3.7 in spite of the language difficulties, and studying much less than back home. (It was not a top university, though)

Andy, I fell I am on this side of the career slope where GPA still matters for recruiters :)

Don't mention your GPA on resume. When asked, explain why it is "low".
