How smart do you have to be to make more money as a quant than being a investment banker?

I keep seeing people say you need to be a genius or have a iq of like 145 is that true? Or do you just have to be at a target school and get interships like ib and how about succeeding too? If you aren’t very smart are you plateaued making 200k your entire life?

The best quants are extremely bright. The best investment bankers are extremely convincing and are brimming with confidence. It's pretty simple. Every career path has people who excel due to an "unfair advantage" they posses. I'm not sure the point of this thread tbh.

Since when making 200K a year while not very smart is an issue?
You either have a very skewed view of the industry or got your information from the wrong sources.
This is an industry with different roles and if you have something unique to offer, you will find your own spot.

I’m not saying it’s an issue? When did I say that I’m just saying relatively to ib it would be low

If you are in this career for the money, and arent naturally significantly smarter than avg people or even top 20 school students. Then you have no chance of making more money than a banker having a career as a quant trader/researcher. Just quit this delusion now!

They arent asking the best they're asking averages like an avg quant trader/dev/researcher at a big or midsize firm vs. an avg banker at a MF/BB or in mm. Even then, quants need insane level of natural intelligence that even a masters in stats or CS at a top 20 won't land you a gig at a big firm. Hell, even midsize ones without being top 1% intelligence globally. And at firms like citadel, you need to be at least right below math Olympiad.
