I understand admissions committees look for candidates with actual industry experience, in the form of FT or internships. Of course, they wouldn't risk their placement track record. As someone who only held research positions in labs and virtually no real-time execution or impact, how can I convince the admissions committee that I will be employable?

I think "no real-time execution and impact" is measured differently in the industry and academia.

There are skills you can highlight that would be appreciated by the industry folk too.
1. Ability to work independently
2. Competency to solve abstract problems and design solutions when there's a dearth of information
3. Attention to detail
These are just some examples, but you get the idea.

An added advantage is that since you would have worked closely with your instructor/professor, their reference will carry considerable weightage. A strong recommendation letter highlighting your technical skills and soft skills would be convincing enough.
