I’m preparing my application essays for Financial Engineering or Financial Mathematics master’s programs, and I’m not sure how to approach two parts:
  1. How should I write the “Why I want to study this field” section?
  2. What’s the best way to present my post-graduation career goals?
To be honest, these programs are quite niche, and my main reason for pursuing them is that I want to work in a quant role. Beyond that, my biggest motivation is the high salary, but I’m not sure if that’s something I can (or should) put in an essay.

For those who have gone through the application process, how did you write your essays?
What kind of motivations or goals did you emphasize to make your application stand out?

You need to come up with more convincing reason than that. The best one should come from your research about the industry, what skillset you bring, etc.
Think of a big puzzle and where you will fit in this puzzle. The more look at the puzzle by reading books, talking to practitioners and other students, the better you will know how you fit in.

For those who have successfully gained admission to top-tier Financial Engineering programs, could you share the core themes or angles you used for your statement of purpose?

Specifically, how should one answer the question "Why do you want to be a quant?"
