Is my work experiece strong enough to offset my 2.85 gpa?

I'm finalizing my MFE applications right now, and I'm trying set realistic expectations.

I graduated from UCSB with a BS in Financial Math and Stats with a 2.85 gpa. This was three and a half years ago.

Since graduating I have gained 3 years of work experience:
-1 year as software dev for a large healthcare software company
-2 years as a quant at a large regional bank developing AML models
(Current job)

My 3 LoR are from my current role and I believe they will be strong. They are from:
-my boss, senior quant manager
-my boss's boss, analytics director
-my boss's boss's boss, next in line to be chief risk officer

I was hoping to get an academic LoR, but I haven't spoken to my professors in 3 years - I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

For GRE I scored 170Q/160V.

I'm also not a foreign student if that matters.

I have 6 applications - all top 15 - ready to send with Chicago as my top choice. But honestly after reading through so many profiles here I can't help but feel a bit outclassed - especially with my GPA.

Realistically should I even expect to get into 1 program?

You’ve got a strong GRE, solid work experience, and great recommendations lined up—I think those are big pluses! The GPA isn’t ideal, but it’s been a few years, and you’ve clearly proven yourself professionally since then.
The MFE programs look for quantitative skills and relevant experience, which you have. So, while the GPA may raise a brow, it’s not a dealbreaker.
Realistically? I’d say there’s a shot you’ll land at least one offer. Worst case, it’s still worth trying, and if needed, you can always apply again with even more experience next year. Good luck! 🌟 🤟

Only one way to find out. There are lots of factors and some luck involved besides GPA.
I'll say submit them, put them on the Tracker and I'll send some prayers your way.
