What’s a reasonable timeline to become professionally proficient?

It depends what you want to do. I think you can be productive fairly quickly (depending on your background), definitely in 3 months you have a decent level. Then if you want to become a pure KDB/Q developer, it will definitely take some time until you internalise all concepts. I have a study plan with everything you need to know for every role. Have a look here: Choosing the Right KDB/Q Study Plan | DefconQ

This is perfect - thank you!

It’d be great to even have you and @Andy Nguyen turn this into a full blown course on Quantnet. I’ve been wanting this course for several years on here.

It’s useful for pretty much every persona on here. Quant researcher, quant developer, trading system developer … at some point in a career all three of these profile will very likely interact with kdb+/q

It's an idea that I'm very open to. I think we addressed critical skillset like programming with C++ and Python courses but we haven't addressed the gritty nitty database skillset part.
@Alexander Unterrainer - DefconQ I'm game if you are :)

I need to run it by Data Intellect as there's basically a conflict of interest :D They do sell training courses already
