I plan to apply for MFE programs either for spring admissions or fall admissions next year.
I have poor Mathematics grades in college, mostly due to not being serious enough about college at that time. (I have had amazing grades in high school in mathematics). The question is that I wish to improve these, to make a good admission profile. How can I do that? Are there any online courses that I can take or if I clear CFA level 1 will it overshadow poor college grades?

Passing CFA level 1 will do absolutely nothing to compensate for a weak math background.

As far as remedial courses go, it can be pretty hit-or-miss... there are some legit ones, but also a whole lot of not-so-great ones... If you're based in NY, the Baruch pre-MFE courses are known to be pretty solid... UIUC NetMath is also known to be pretty good, and while it's online it actually includes grades and university credit--

In my case I took night classes at a local university and they ended up serving their purpose pretty well for admissions, but as far as online courses go, it can be pretty risky because unless you get grades and actual serious credit for them, adcoms will usually take them with a grain of salt and not necessarily trust that you learned anything.

Might be able to overshadow poor mathematics GPA with high standardized test scores - 166-170Q on GRE, and a high mathematics subject test score would probably work. Studying for the mathematics subject test alone would probably catch you up to where you need to be in terms of calculus, numerical analysis and algebra.

Thank you for that tip. I am not from USA and I can't seem to find a local university which would let me take classes in Maths alone. I checked out netmath, it seems worth it.
