Hello everyone I am an fresh undergraduate from India . I have earned an BE degree in IT.I want to pursue MFE now .I would like to know that if I return to India in short term, say one year after course completion than what are my chances of getting a quant job in India. Also I would like to know more about courses concentrating more in mathematics rather than programming .
Thanks in advance .

Almost all big banks have their shops in India. And all these banks have quant positions, but the quality of these quant positions are to be debated.

As far as I know, every firm has a small core quant team which does some real quant jobs, but the rest of the so called quant jobs are really support jobs for their onsite counterparts. IITs and IIMs are filling these positions till now and if you return with a MFE degree from a good university, you will be welcomed - but it is always better to have some contacts. In a nutshell, yes there are opportunities in India, but please consider will you be satisfied with the kind of roles offered...

And there are few Prop Trading firms in India which trade in Global FI and Commodity market. If you like to become a trader, then these firms may offer you a role closest to what a Prop Trading firm in Chicago may offer. On the brighter side many of these firms have already/ are planning to enter(ed) into Algo trading and HFT space.

I cant comment about firms operating in Indian Market.

I would suggest you to have some relevant experience(at least couple of interns) before you set out for MFE.

Your UG aggregate is low. If your aim is to enter into some Good MFE program, you may have to prepare hard in all other aspects.

-> Try adding some relevant exp for 1 or 2 yrs at least.
-> If you have missed any Math pre-req in UG, then take some pre-MFE programs to complete that.
-> While importance of CFA to get admit is being debated highly, I would suggest you to go for it. Clear at least 2 levels of CFA before applying.

If you enter into some mediocre univ in US, in the present state you will find it next to impossible to find a job after graduation. Even if you come back to India, you will need some good brand in your resume to find a job.

So I will suggest you to prepare in all aspects to strengthen your profile and enter into some good universities. If I were you, I would even try to do my PG (MBA or ME in relevant fields in a good coll) and try to get some good score in my PG and then apply for MFE...

You may use Quantnet Tracker to find people who entered MFE with low grades in UG. Contact them and get feedback about what you can do...

I am sorry if my words were demotivating, but I wish you enter into some good univ. Also, please don't accept my words as such, pl contact as many people as possible and plan for your career...

Cheers. All the best..

I'd recommend you take the GRE/GMAT again and get a better score on the Quant section at least.
