Hey,
I really want to get into the Quant field, and my dream school is Baruch. I was hoping if I can get some advice on my elgibility, and what I can do going forward to stand out and increase my chances of getting in.
- I am currently a student at University of Toronto, so already not a top school.
- expected graduation in June 2025
- Studying double major in Mathematics and Economics. GPA 3.4/4.0 So very mediocre but considered above average for my programs at my school.
- I have 10 years tutoring experience on online platforms and freelance.
- 2 years teaching math at a private school and no I do not have an education degree, I tutored there and they liked the results so they hired me as a teacher.
- over this last year I had an internship as a data analyst at a law firm.
- over the past 4 years I worked as a financial analyst for a small tech company.
- no experience in coding at all only excel, stata and the standards of the finance world.
- BUT plan to take the C++ Baruch course for a certificate in May.
- I did not apply to any grad school yet, hoping to work next year or focus on improving my resume so I can increase my chances of getting in.
- Should I apply for grad school else where?
- I go to a Canadian school will that make it harder to get in?
- which internships should I look at?
- should I delay my graduation an extra year and take a minor in compsci?
- is there another way to get into the quant industry?
I would really appreciate any support, input, advice, criticism. I do not think I can get in with my experience as it is now- considering i have applied to so many jobs for Quant trading/researcher internships, financial analyst and have been rejected- really makes me think that compared to other candidates I really do not compare.
