Placements: Neither post their stats so you can't say much. You might want to get in touch with students there. I did speak to a few of them and from what I know the placements are good. The person I spoke to had 2 offers by the end of his first year. But that doesn't mean everyone does. You should know that the program is now taken care of by Scheller School of Business and I do see this as something positive since B Schools care a lot about placing their students.
Gatech: one of the best engineering schools in USA.
Poly: Decent. The merger with NYU which would legally come into effect this Jan '14 is a huge step but it's fruits wont reap until later next year so we cant be sure. I personally don't believe in what the crowd has got to say. The whole industry is aware of this merger and probably understand it better than I do. But the advantage could be complete access to Wasserman Career Services of NYU which itself is one of the best.
Location: NYU poly definitely scores over Gatech at this but Gatech's QCF has been around for almost 13 years. So I'm sure they must have figured out some way to advertise their program well in NY and I'm also sure many students find their way to NY later. And I hope you know that the ranking methodology did take into account the opinion of recruiters and it shows Gatech is better.
Conclusion: I would definitely rate Gatech above Poly. If being in NY and good career support is what you want, you should go to Poly. If brand name, college reputation, peer quality and still a good career support is what you're looking for, you should go to Tech.
Also, if you're going to tech, listen to Rambin' Wreck from Georgia Tech. It's probably the best fight song out there. :D
