Hello there. I'm interested in enrolling in the Pre-MFE Baruch courses for the Jan 2015 session and I know 3 are offered: advanced calculus, probability, and linear algebra.

I'll likely be taking all 3 courses eventually but I was wondering in which order would you most recommend, assuming I take one a semester ? In terms of background, I was a finance major undergrad, but I've taken calculus 1/2, and statistics (non-probability based), and discrete math so i'm quite light on the math background at the moment. I've also taken a number of cs courses (algorithms, data structures, etc) so I think any programming component should be ok.

Also, is it not recommended to take more than one a semester ?

Any responses would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The decision on how many Pre-MFE seminars to take in the Spring, when all three are fofered concurrently, as well as the order depends on individual background.

You need to take an undergraduate linear algebra class in order to qualify for taking the Numerical Linear Algebra seminar. Also, an undergraduate probability class would be the ideal background for taking the Pre-MFE Probability seminar.

You can take the Advanced Calculus seminar in the Spring, possibly Probability as well; that depends on the rest of your profile, which we would learn more about from your application.

Good luck.
