So i have been doing a lot of just research and preparation for QT interviews for 2026 summer internships and what I saw at the beginning were people studying problems from different websites, or trying to memorize old interview questions and things of that nature. I started doing that and then I realized half-way through that that is really the wrong way to go about things. It seems like regardless of whatever the specific topic might be, these firms(from my VERY LIMITED knowledge) are really trying to test a candidates Problem Solving abilities. With that being said is there a way to go about getting better at the skill of problem solving? Obviously I would assume the answer is just, simply solve more problems that you naturally will just get better aswell as your intuition, but other than that is there something else to keep in mind?
I say this because regardless of if you've done a bunch of questions on these interview prep websites, the goal should be to be able to solve a NEW problem that you have never seen before in a reasonable amount of time, cause assuming you pass the CV screening, you will most likely be getting problems you have never seen before and if you only understand the old problems you have solved but can't apply the methods to new ones or just simply can't then I think it would be hard. , so the only way to realisitcally solve it within the amount of time these firms allow, you have to be super good at problem-solving and FAST aswell and under-pressure..
TLDR:
How to get super-good at the SKILL of problem solving and maybe bringing creative solutions to problems to the level that is required for QT position. (Good enough for undergrad/internship level, im not sure if FT offers require way more knowledge/skills then what they would expect from an undergrad/newgrad student)
Thank you in advance. I appreciate all the advice if any that is given. Have a blessed day.
