I'm reaching out hoping to tap into your collective wisdom regarding a decision I'm facing. I recently received an acceptance into UIUC - which is good news! However, due to the unexpectedly fast turnaround, I find myself in a bit of a dilemma.

The deadline of most of the good programs I am applying to is in January and admit results will not be in until March, I guess. My goal is to make a well-informed decision by carefully considering all my options and ensuring the best fit for my academic and career aspirations.

Have any of you faced similar situations with early acceptances? Do you think it's generally feasible to request an extension from a program like UIUC's MSFE? How did you approach the decision-making process?

I'm confident that your experiences and perspectives will be incredibly valuable as I navigate this exciting yet challenging situation. Thanks in advance for your time and advice!

GeorgiaTech has refused an extension. So, would it make sense to wait for the decisions of the other higher-ranked programs I have applied to (most of which will come in March, I presume), or should I pay and secure my spot? Given that I am still in my undergrad, the deposit carries a significant financial commitment.

I would personally go for GeorgiaTech over UIUC.

As far as the deposit is concerned, GATech is one of the lowest around $1500. If it is not a big financial commitment for you, then you should save your seat.

Worst case, if you don't get any admit in March, then at least you can go to GATech which is still a great university and a good program, having a good placement record.
