I just downloaded the Powerprep II software and it gave me a Q score of between 750-800 (no exact score) on the practice for the revised version. I was wondering if schools would want the newer version of the GRE? If I take the old one does it look like I'm trying to avoid the new one? The verbal seems more practical on the new one, instead of taking a vocab test. I didn't try it though.

You take whatever test you feel more comfortable. Schools won't judge you with it. Either test you take, you must have to score perfectly on the quant part, anyway so there is no reason to pick one or another.

I suggest you take it now if you feel like you are prepared. The new format seems to cover more/harder material (not that they are hard for a quant-to-be).

Known mean (acceptably high), known standard deviation (acceptably low) vs unknown mean and unknown standard deviation? Somebody needs to brush up on their asset allocation theory ;)

I got my GRE test on Tuesday. Old one obviously. I am struggling a teensy bit with Algebra but decided its now or never. Is the new test that much different from the old one in terms of math? The concepts to test are largely the same right?

Doing the Powerprep I actually thought it was easier. I didn't finish the very last question on the 2nd part of the exam, but I knew how to do it. I just didn't pace myself correctly and was kind of distracted. The time was reasonable. You don't have to waste your time doing basic arithmetic since they give you a calculator.

groy - I'm doing the new GRE test once it comes into play. I picked up the Kaplan book New GRE Premier, which has been a really useful resource.
I presume after the new test has been launched, the old one won't be available anymore?
