So this summer, I'll be a rising sophomore math/physics major at JHU. Long story short, I had a position set up for this summer doing web development, but it fell through and now I'm kind of lost and was hoping someone here could give me some advice on where to go now.

It wouldn't be too hard to find something for this summer, but spring semester I was sick most of the time and ended up with a C in Vector Calc and a B- in Linear Algebra (I'll be taking Calc again this summer to replace that grade).

I really want to do something algorithm related this summer, but considering I'm a Freshman, that's unlikely at best.

Should I keep applying to stuff?, is it too late?, any recommended this to apply to?, etc.

Thanks in advance

There is no harm in keep applying. You have a better chance to focus on smaller firms and use all your network contacts.
If nothing comes off it, filling summer time by retaking the course while freelancing, learning a new programming skill would be productive.

Do you have any advice for what types of freelancing have the most work available/ are easiest to start with?

And yes, I intend to spend my free time this summer learning basic R and .Net, while retaking Calc 3 online.
