C++ Programming for Financial Engineering

This course is very comprehensive and practical, and my TA Apalley responded to my questions very quickly. I will recommend this course to anyone who would like an introduction to use C++ in quantitative finance.

The course is well-designed and explicitly taught by the professor. Although the courses are online, questions are always answered instantly and patiently by both the professor and TA.

1. i love the design of the class: with class points and arrays all c++ concepts are introduced.
2. TAs always reply questions very fast.
3. In level 9, the practical part, we can really use the c++ knowledge to finance instruments although this chapter is short.

The course is very comprehensive on c++. It covers a lot of topics, some very advanced. The application on financial engineering topics is very helpful too.

Overall the level of the material is hard, but it's good for the students because the covered exercises will be seen in the real world interview a lot. Under such requirement the students need to make their work running right and efficiently. And the TA is also very helpful that he can give the feedback soon.

This course gives me solid foundation in C++ programming. Before I learned this course, I had no experience in coding. But in the later learning process of the elaborately designed 9 levels of C++ programming, I gradually obtained the ability to read and write complex code in C++ style. Moreover, Dr. Daniel Duffy and my assigned TA gave me a lot of help. I really appreciate the quick feedback of my TA and active members in the forum. This is indeed a precious experience for me.

This course is almost perfect.

From my own perspective, I want to know more about the Boost library and Quantlib. I hope Dr. Daniel Duffy can give more lectures about these two powerful tools.

Students are exposed to a range of programming concepts in a theoretical and practical manner which leaves them with the ability to not only grasp C++ concepts, but also easily understand concepts in other programming languages. Once completed, this course gives you the ability to research and build your own personal C++ applications to further enhance your skills. The TA's are very helpful and also respond to questions in a timely and comprehensive manner. All in all I am very glad i committed to this course.

I learnt a lot from this C++ course - the syllabus is well-structured and the workload is intense. After I finished the C++ course I felt that I learned a very much from you. Not only for the level of the material developed, but also the excellent lectures of Daniel and, maybe more importantly, the tireless support and help of my TA, very committed with the course and his students.

I had a generally good experience throughout the four months. After learning it, I can use C++ to do homework for other pre-mfe classes. This is the first ever computer language I have learned. Great course for beginners with little to no prior experience in programming. The levels are structured in a way that allows students to build a solid basis and gradually move to more complicated topics. It also provides a wide array of financial engineering methods with an already working prototype which is extremely beneficial for students just starting to learn financial engineering.

This is a great course that gives us a good understanding of C++ in a relative short time.

For someone coming in who has utilized coding techniques previously, I feel as though I am leaving the course with a much better understanding of elegant programming techniques in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. While the homework was challenging at times, I believe the course covered all of the bases needed to be a successful programmer in the long run and the TA support for an online course was phenomenal.

While not only learning a lot, I have found the formality of the certification itself to be valuable in terms of a career perspective. For someone who was not coming from a Computer Science B.S., but has experience coding, this certification serves as a great CE (continuing education) addition to my resume that shows I have been formally trained in Object Oriented Programming techniques, without the need to go back and get another bachelors degree.

Within the first several weeks I was able to write a non-trivial c++ tool that made use of third-party libraries, boost, and higher-level organizational concepts. The TAs are wonderfully supportive and helpful, and I would highly recommend the course for anyone starting out in C / C++ who is looking to achieve a baseline of knowledge in a relatively short amount of time.
