  2. NYU student with 100K loan

I have an undergrad degree in finance from Baruch with no debt. Tuition was only $2180 per semester. Although her major choices are awkward, I read somewhere on these forums that major recruiters would rather pick up kids from "top" schools like NYU for their analyst programs regardless of...
  3. Baruch MFE Baruch MFE - New Curriculum 2010

I took calculus I with prof. Stefanica in my undergrad degree. One of the main reasons I'd do anything to get into Baruch's program.

  5. Datasim NYC C++ course for MSc, Phd and MFE students with Daniel Duffy

I'd like to know where in NYC this class is and how much knowledge of previous programming is required. It's only 3 days long, I doubt you'd learn much.

  7. Tips to future New Yorkers

Heh, that was a joke post I made (I just happened to remember my anthropology professor talking about norms in the NYC subway, haha). The only tips you need are the monthly metro cards, try pizzeria pizza, and there are many awesome comedy and Broadway shows.

#2 Avoid eye contact on trains (people can be psychos). #3 When riding the train, please wash your hands afterwards. #4 Move quick. #5 Be prepared for dynamic climate change. Summers are too hot and winters are too cold. #6 Be polite, give your seat on trains to elderly.
  9. Baruch MFE Programming education

I understand that self studying is the most efficient way to learning programming languages, but I was wondering if a course or two would be beneficial for a complete newbie. I was looking at: http://www.baruched.com/shop/catalog.aspx?id=3723 Thoughts?
  10. best C++ beginner book

I've looked at the sticky with the master reading list and bought "Thinking in C++." I've just now looked more into these forums and realized this book is actually for an intermediate level programmer. I have never programmed before nor do I have any knowledge of it whatsoever so I need a...
  11. Baruch MFE Do i have a chance?

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you, graduated in May 2009 and can't find an entry level position. Positions such as financial analyst and actuary analyst require a bit of experience and maybe even an accounting background. MFE programs require certain math courses which you probably have, and...
  12. Baruch MFE Polytech's MS Financial Engineering

I've sent a private message to Prof Stefanica. I've ordered "Thinking in C++" to self study. Right now, I feel I have three options to further my studies: 1. MBA, this requires 4-5 years of work experience. I've been looking and applying for entry level positions since graduation in May...

Yeah, I know I can take the classes outside of Baruch, but I find it easier for me to commute between work and Baruch (walking length) so I'd rather go there if I can. Do you happen to know what are the exact course codes for the classes I'd need? I'm thinking: MTH 3010 (calculus II) MTH...

  15. Baruch MFE Polytech's MS Financial Engineering

Awesome, right now I plan on taking calculus 2, intermediate calculus, and linear algebra at Baruch undergrad levels as a non-degree student. I was wondering if I should take CIS 3100 (it covers C++)?
  16. Baruch MFE Polytech's MS Financial Engineering

What about the work experience requirements (for Baruch or Poly)? Is there a requirement?
  17. Baruch MFE Polytech's MS Financial Engineering

I graduated from Baruch in May 2009, I'm now 24 years old and still interning :( I didn't look into Baruch because it's a CUNY school and Polytech is associated with NYU so it's probably ranked higher?
