I'm planning on applying to a graduate program in statistics. I'm going to focus my course of studies in time series analysis, Econometrics and financial statistics. There is obviously much more to the application to an MFE program in the future but i wanted to know if this is an Excellent step...
I'm new to fortran and am currently learning the language. Thought my experience would be more pleasant with a a good fortran compiler. Anyone know of any open-source / free compiler and can you please attach the download link. thanks

I ultimately plan on pursing a PhD in Physics, specializing in mathematical physics and particularly the use of partial differential equations. Should I then apply to a financial engineering program in order to obtain a position in quantitative finance ?

What do the MFE schools give greater weight to during the review process if you have a masters, let's say in statistics, and you did really well! but you did a solid 3.2 - 3.4 in your math major with a few bad grades.
