I was wondering which path would give the best education for a career in quantitative finance. PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or mathematics? Which one of these paths would offer the most applicable knowledge and skills to quant finance?
Thanks!

It really depends on the specification of your thesis. The physics PhD could be in numerical methods applied to PDEs, which could be transferable to quantitative finance. Perhaps your mathematics PhD is on stochastic calculus, which would probably be more useful than a PhD in EE, for example. If you can easily apply the skills in whatever field you choose to do your thesis in, to problems in quantitative finance, then that would be considered a good/useful step toward a career in QF. Obviously if your PhD is IN QF, that would provide the best education and skillset for a career in QF.
