Hello, I am an undergraduate from a no name university in U.S.. In particular my math background is very advanced for undergrad, it is around a ~3rd year PhD level (advanced pde theory (semigroup), advanced analysis at the level of Folland & functional analysis). I'm at the level where I'm almost ready to start reading papers and formulating my thesis/take comprehensive exams in my field of study. But I'm also dabbled in SWE internships, learning and deploying proper software practices and enjoying it. I have extensive experience in data science as well, having worked in industry and academia in data science/ML space. I have the option to go to a very prestigious bank for applied ML or big tech for data science.
Would anyone have a suggestion between the two behemoths? Opinions on pivoting to quant from big tech versus big bank?
I take into consideration the following:
Exit opportunities into the quant finance industry
Visibility within the org and without
Exit opportunities to PhD (math or ML)
I do not care about early career comp at all between the two options. In a perfect world, I could develop software products that integrate data science aspects and work on mathematical modeling for the markets, but this type of job may not exist in one role.
