I've visited many resourceful threads on here (Quant Internship and Recruitment Firm List, etc.) and haven't found many relevant to Canadian recruitment. As a Canadian citizen who requires sponsorship to work in the U.S., it makes more sense to apply to Canadian positions (and U.S. but primarily Canadian). There seems to be only a fraction of positions available, if any, related to financial engineering. If anyone could provide valuable advice such as looking for internships in related fields, or maybe I'm not looking in the right places, I would greatly appreciate it.

To be clear I’m referring to internship positions, visa required in U.S., are you saying to apply for the TN before applying to these positions so you don’t require sponsorship? From what I’ve been told you can only obtain one through sponsorship… but maybe I’m wrong

From that website, it looks like TNs can be used for internships. To get the TN, you need an offer first. In the job application, just say you don't need sponsorship.

The alternative is J-1, but that does need sponsorship...

There are limited opportunities in Canada, mostly in the Bay Street area, Toronto.
To have some idea you can follow the Toronto Math Fin program. They are active on social media and you can see the type of employers having relationship with the program. Pension funds, insurance companies, Canadian banks are the typical ones.
