CFA and FRM necessary for a quant?

Will those two be a plus for a quant? If not, what else should serve a quant better to find a job in the industry?
 
Quants != business drones. Business drones need these exams.
Quants instead simply need higher degrees. MS or PhD, depending on the shop.

Maybe I am not understanding your question correctly but I believe anything of that nature will add some value. The question is whether the investment is necessary. Since you are posting on this forum, I will say CFA/FRM is not required. In other words, you will be okay without them.
 
It's definitely a 'plus', how much of a 'plus' is the question. Quants encompass a large spectrum of roles (trading, risk mgmt, portfolio mgmt, etc), and the utility of those certifications will vary greatly across these roles.
