Split up is as follows

Trading - around 15% of the class
Quant Analyst - 22%
Quant Research - 12 %
Risk Mgmt - 22%

The rest have gotten into consulting, fin analyst, quant developer etc..typically 3-5 people in each of these. In terms of location, almost half have got jobs in Chicago. The next popular destination is NYC. This is just brief summary of the stats. The numbers are pretty much the same for 2012,2013 and 2014.
Thank you for sharing it. If the stats are reliable, then MSFM has a fine placement. But if the numbers for 2012, 2013, and 2014 are really this good, why is MSFM only ranked 14th? And why don't they put the stats on the website?

A lot of good programs such as NYU, Stanford etc don't have placement stats on their websites. I am not sure why that's the case.
I guess some programs crave for publicity and some don't. Regarding the rankings, you probably gotta ask Andy.

If you were investing in a stock, would you pick the one with the highest ranking amongst fund managers? Or the one with the strongest fundamentals?

I'm not saying UChicago has the strongest fundamentals, but you get my point...

actually, I don't.

These are the offers I currently have.. also on Cornell's wl.. waiting for CMU, NYU and Baruch..
however Chicago's deadline is tomorrow.. Any idea? should i pay the deposit for chicago first and wait for the others?
thanks!

Vote for Columbia. Location, curriculum, job placement. I am not saying Uchicago MSFM is bad, but Columbia MAFN is better.

if you don't specifically want to live in chicago, I'd say follow Zhang's advice and go with New York. no discussion.

i put a similar post days ago and you can find it on the forum to see if there are discussions that help.

you might as well request for an extension of deposit ddl by email. I did so and it worked.

Plus, now i'm leaning towards Columbia.

Hope this helps.

Thank you guys! Got the admission from CMU MSCF today :) No more concerns!

Hi all,
Just received admission from this two programs. Quite hard for me to make a decision.
I'd like to be a trading quant so Chicago takes the advantage. However, I may say Columbia has a better alumni network, isn't it? So anyone could give me some advice? Thank you.

Congratuations!
Can you share your profile please?
Anyone else get invites?

If your goal is to be a quant trader then go to Chicago imo.

Source: Currently in Columbia MAFN

Definitely Columbia MAFN; Source based current MAFN students:one of them will intern at S&T in GS NY this summer, one in NY UBS trading , over 20 studetns already got internship offer from bulge bracket.

all the ibd, S&T , hedge fund, AM, quant trading firm such as Two sigma, DE shaw recruit at Columbia. Columbia MAFN has access to these firms and various positions from trading to quant, from research to consulting, etc

Thanks man. This really helps.

Thanks for the advice. So could you please share some drawbacks about Columbia's program?
No real drawbacks, I love the program. Just in my job search and experience there seems to be more opportunities for quant trading in Chicago vs NYC. I can confirm all of what quiangouzi has said, though.
