Hello everyone. I have been accepted into both Georgia Tech University and Carnegie Mellon University quantitative finance programme. However, If I accepted Georgia Tech's offer, I will be fully funded and I wont have to spend a dime. However if I accept Carnegie's offer, I will have to come up with $30,000 out of my pocket. I love Carnegie's programme but do you think it is worth it to spend $30,000 to go to Carnegie over Georgia as I have a lot of respect for Georgia.( Here is some back ground, I am an international student who will be returning home after completion of the programme )

At face value CMU appears to have better exit opportunities than GTech. The CMU program has been around for more than a decade so they're running a well-oiled machine. As far as QFinance/US goes, CMU appears to have the stronger program but GTech is known for its excellent Engineering programs.

Smart and resourceful students will always land great offers regardless of which school they attend.

Since you're planning to return home, it may not matter which one you attend..since both schools are viewed as prestigious US schools. Look at the curriculum and professors to get a feel for which one would be a better for fit for you, personally and professionally.

Hi all, just looking for some opinions on these two courses. The only positive that I see Georgia Tech having over CMU currently is the tuition cost, which is a major factor for me unfortunately. Is the 30k extra tuition worth it for CMU, or am I underestimating the quality of Georgia Techs course? Any advice on the courses themselves and career outcomes would be much appreciated - thank you!

If tuition is really a big factor for you, then you might also want to consider Gatech. I think the curriculum there is solid. When coming to find a job, it always depends on who you are but not which program you are in eventually. And if tuition is not something that affects your decision too much, then cmu.
