Hi,

I am currently working as software develeoper for an algorithmic trading firm. Earlier I want to pursue financial engineering. But decided to drop it as I enjoyed coding more than financial part. So am deciding to pursue masters in computer science. I was unable to find something like quantnet for computer science, ideally it should be :). Thanks Andy.

But as lot of people on this forum are from computer science maybe they can help.

Just had couple of questions regarding it

1. Generally what is age of students pursuing computer science masters. I am currently 27.
2. Which universities offer financial aid for master in computer science and where I can realistically expect to get it. Checked CMU site, there is hardly any scholarships offered and I dont want to put lot of money into it. My gre score is 1500 and tofel is 101. My gpa is around 8.2/10. Currently have 4 years of experience in software development but all in financial firms.
3. I had completed a dual degree progam in my undergraduate. It awards BTech + MTech after 5 years. Will it be problem for admission.

Thanks

1) I was 28 when I did a Master in Computer Science
2) Usually universities don't offer financial aid for Master programs. You will have to do your own research here. If you apply you will probably get in since there is not a high demand for this degree.
3) How could this be a problem? What was your line of thinking when you wrote this? It's not clear to me the relationship between dual degree program (in whatever subjects) and admission to a Master in CS.

Hi Alain,

For the third point, by dual degree program I meant dual degree proram in India. After 5 years, you get BTech + Mtech.

Still, I don't understand the relationship or how that could impact your admission. You will need to be more explicit if you want a better explanation.

I am thinking since I already have a masters, will universities question my intention another master that too in Computer Science

Was your original Master in CS? why do you want a second Master in CS? Believe me, it's not going to be that different. CS hasn't changed that much since you got your degree. IMHO, I think you will be wasting your money is this is the case.

You probably will pay full tuition without aid so there is no reason a lot programs won't admit you. You just have to do a cost analysis to see if another master degree will make sense for your career. Depend on the program you may not learn much.

I have a major in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science. So I have completed the some of the courses in computer science. But havent done things like Automata, Compiler Designing, Networking , Distributed Systems. That why I was planning to pursue the masters
