I've got ADs from these two programs, which I think are in the same tier but not among the top.
I have to send my deposit to umich in next week if i decided to head for there. I'm not sure which program is better, especially based on the factor of placement. Any advice among these two would be useful. Thanks!;)

Would be helpful if we know about the job placement data there to help you. Judging from the lack of response, it's not the case.
As far as information availability is concerned, they are the two blackholes in the middle of the country.

I choose UM b/c I think it offers better job prospects due to proximity to Chicago, GeorgiaTech $16K cheaper though. Unfortunately, the review of GeorgiaTech is not very detailed.

This might help you too (I got the feeling this is the student who provided the review of UM): A Student's-Eye View of the University of Michigan's MFE Program
This blog is pretty good. I wish there'd be more posts like these about schools that are not well known or are not in the the NY/Chi area.

arent you contradicting yourself in the statement?? They lack non immigrant students == lot of american students == lot of native english speakers == more info on blog????
lack non-immigrant students= small # of native English speakers....

got it thnx. but i am still not sure if tht is the reason as even most of the tier 1 courses have majority of international students.

'URGENT: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MFE vs Georgia Tech QCF program.' was merged into this thread.
Hello. I really need your help to decide between these two programs.. I have only the last 2 days to make the choice. Please help me compare these programs based on location, course content and flexibility, job prospects, quality of teaching and reputation on wall street. Thank you.

I am in a similar situation.
Everyone seems to say that Gatech/Gatech QCF program has quite a few connections with the energy sector. This could be largely due to the fact that the program director's research interest is electricity derivative pricing.
I don't know anything about UMich's program.

If you just go by the ranking of the Universities then UM is one of the best in the world (top 10 on many rankings).
Other then that I don't know the programs.

Recent graduates of GATECH in energy: Constoliation, Edison, Dominion Resource, Exelon, Georgia Power, Citi Group

Thank you everyone. After much deliberation I have decided to go with Univ of Michigan.. Hope its the right one :)

NewHere I don't mean to confuse you but I spoke with 2 seniors of mine who are currently pursuing MFE at UMich. Both of them said that GTech is better than UMich. At least, in terms of placements. Additionally, the course in GTech is more oriented towards programming. So, if you are more interested in the computational area, then probably GTech is better for you. However, according to both the seniors, UMich is equally good as GTech in terms of courses, faculty and brand.
Finally, its your call. Best of luck for any University you decide :).
