Does anyone know the new QF&RM program at UMichigan?

I can't claim to have any specific knowledge of this, but my guesses would be:

Pros:
The University of Michigan is an extremely well-respected school in the US, and their math department is solid... from an educational standpoint, they'll probably be able to teach you the material pretty well.

Cons:
@Andy Nguyen

I know that the location is a huge disadvantage, but U Michigan and Ross' B-school are very renowned. This new program may have some connection with Ross and strengthen the focus on math and engineering.

Thanks!

I wouldn't necessarily bank on this at all. Because of how new it is it probably won't be a target program for quant recruiters, and while most of the top banks and funds do actively recruit from Ross, as a student in the math department, you likely will not be allowed to attend MBA career events.

Additionally, as a brand new program and with their previous program only existing for a few years, I wouldn't imagine them to have a particularly deep alumni network so you'll largely be on your own when it comes to finding a job... and as far as finding a quant job goes from Ann Arbor, Michigan, you might as well be on Mars.

Over 4 hours each way on Amtrak, and it's not cheap... it's either that, buy a car, or fly.

Thanks Casanova!

If ask you to compare Fordham MSQF, which has lower reputation but more advantage in location, with U Michigan MSQF, which one do you think will be a better choice?

I heard about some information that there is nearly no big name hold recruting event on Fordham campus, though it is located in NYC. But someone tells me NYC is actually the most important resource. So I am considering which one is better to apply as a conservative choice.

Thanks
god damn it, you answered your own question, now I don't know what to do :(
